A Simple Checklist for Planning a Small Business App

Before building an app, write down one task it should make easier. For a service business, that might be taking appointment requests without a long exchange of messages.

A three-step plan

1. Name the user and the task. For example: “A customer requests a visit, and a staff member confirms it.”
2. Sketch the smallest complete flow. Start with a request form, a confirmation, and a staff view. Put extra ideas on a later list.
3. Show the sketch to a few potential users. Ask what is unclear and what information they would need at each step.

Then note what data the app must store, who can access it, and whether the first version needs to work on the web, on a phone, or both. This gives you a focused starting point to test before expanding the scope.
